3C Farm is located in Culpeper, with pasture land also in Rappahannock and Fauquier County. We raise Beef Cattle, Meat Goats, and pastured laying hens for eggs. Having grown up on a farm, we wanted our daughter to have that experience and responsibility, so we started a beef herd in 2000. We have continued to add new enterprises since then.
We use a rotational Grazing system and work hard at trying to grow the best and most nutrition filled grass we can. On most of the land we graze, we have worked with the landowners to fence out the steams and wet areas. This helps improve the water quality for everyone, keeps the cattle healthier, and improves the wildlife habitat.
We raise our cattle without growth hormones or antibiotics as part of their feed. Our steers graze on pasture for 15 to 18 months, and then are feed corn for around 60 days to “finish”. This last 60 days really adds the sweet flavor, tenderness, juiciness and consistency to our beef. One thing that we do, that I feel adds a lot to the finished product is, we only feed out the very top of our steers. A lot of people will sell the top animals in the normal cattle markets and feed out their lower quality steers and cull heifers for beef. This may make the best economic sense, but not the best beef. I only want the best for myself, so we only feed out our best animals. It cost us more to do, but I know it is worth it.
Hopefully you will enjoy our products as much as we do!! Please, let us know what you think.
