The pasture raised pork produced by our members comes from pigs raised on pasture and in the forest all their life, year around. They do not receive any food additives, hormones, steroids, or antibiotics as part of their feed. They root all year around looking for berries, grubs and mushrooms.
They are treated humanely, which means they have shelter, resting areas, plenty of space and the ability to engage in natural behaviors. Our members’ pigs roam around freely enjoying the lush pastures and forests of of Rappahannock and surrounding counties.
We think you will find our pork tastes better, more pure, healthier. Pasture raised pork, like grass fed beef has less total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. It also has more vitamin E, beta-carotene, vitamin C, and a number of health-promoting fats, including omega-3 fatty acids and “conjugated linoleic acid,” or CLA.
For customers would like to read more about Grass Fed Basics, we strongly recommend “Pasture Perfect” by Jo Robinson, who is the founder of "Eatwild" and has been one of the pioneers of the grass fed movement.
Because pasture raised pork is leaner than regular pork, we strongly suggest you cook it slow at a low temperature. We encourage our customers to post their favorite pasture raised pork recipes at our website so that others can enjoy them as well.
We are sure you will enjoy our pasture raised pork and hope to have you as our customer for many years to come.
