Pasture Raised Pork

Pasture Raised PorkThe pasture raised pork produced by our members comes from pigs raised on pasture and in the forest all their life, year around.  They do not receive any food additives, hormones, steroids, or antibiotics as part of their feed.  They root all year around looking for berries, grubs and  mushrooms.

They are treated humanely, which means they have shelter, resting areas, plenty of space and the ability to engage in natural behaviors. Our members’ pigs roam around freely enjoying the lush pastures and forests of of Rappahannock and surrounding counties.

We think you will find our pork tastes better, more pure, healthier.  Pasture raised pork, like grass fed beef  has less total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. It also has more vitamin E, beta-carotene, vitamin C, and a number of health-promoting fats, including omega-3 fatty acids and “conjugated linoleic acid,” or CLA.

For customers would like to read more about Grass Fed Basics, we strongly recommend “Pasture Perfect” by Jo Robinson, who is the founder of "Eatwild" and has been one of the pioneers of the grass fed movement.

Because pasture raised pork is leaner than regular pork, we strongly suggest you cook it slow at a low temperature.   We encourage our customers to post their favorite pasture raised pork recipes at our website so that others can enjoy them as well.

We are sure you will enjoy our pasture raised pork and hope to have you as our customer for many years to come.

Farms carrying Pasture Raised Pork

Belle Meade

Belle Meade Farm specializes in pastured livestock raised without hormones or antibiotics, including cows, pigs, chickens, laying hens, and turkeys, as well as organic vegetables. The farm also features horses, dogs, cats, and an abundance of wildlife. Here at Belle Meade, all of our animal products are free-range and the beef is grass-fed. We practice management intensive rotational grazing in which our herd of cattle rotate through our pastures on a daily basis.

Meadow Green Farm

Meadow Green Farm provides grass fed natural pork, by the cut, half or whole pork.  Our pigs roam, they dig, they graze. We let our pigs be pigs. They don’t get fat gorging themselves on antibiotic-laced feed, but slowly on fescue and clover rich pasture. They have a happy, if short life. Happy well-cared for pigs taste good.

Belle Ridge Farm

Belle Ridge Farm offers the best natural pork sausage, free range eggs and from time to time rose veal and chevon (goats).   Their spotted Gloucester pigs, chickens  and calves all roam around freely in pasture and woodlands.  The Belle Ridge Farm has its roots going back to the early 1700s when Kathy's Grove ancestors settled in Woodville, one of Rappahannock's most picturesque and best preserved small villages.
