You will love our chickens. This is chicken how chicken is supposed to taste. Flavor, structure, tasting like grandmother's chicken many years ago. Nothing like that tasteless something you bought last time at the supermarket.
Our farmers feed their chickens typically some grain bit mostly the chickens are busy scratching for bugs and worms somewhere around the farm. At night they are typically put up in old chicken coops (mine is at least a hundred years old and definitely falling apart) so that foxes, raccoons and skunks can not get a hold of them. You will notice that each farm's chickens will taste a little different. This is not only a function of breeds, but mostly a function of diet. Each pasture is different!
Farms carrying Pastured Chicken
Belle Meade Farm specializes in pastured livestock raised without hormones or antibiotics, including cows, pigs, chickens, laying hens, and turkeys, as well as organic vegetables. The farm also features horses, dogs, cats, and an abundance of wildlife. Here at Belle Meade, all of our animal products are free-range and the beef is grass-fed. We practice management intensive rotational grazing in which our herd of cattle rotate through our pastures on a daily basis.
Rappahannock Farms was created in 2008 when two farming friends sat down to discuss how they could expand their lamb production to meet growing market demand and at the same time help bolster local family farms. The result of that discussion is Rappahannock Farms, LLC - dedicated to bringing you the best quality foods straight from our farms to your home.
Belle Ridge Farm offers the best natural pork sausage, free range eggs and from time to time rose veal and chevon (goats). Their spotted Gloucester pigs, chickens and calves all roam around freely in pasture and woodlands. The Belle Ridge Farm has its roots going back to the early 1700s when Kathy's Grove ancestors settled in Woodville, one of Rappahannock's most picturesque and best preserved small villages.
